| LAUSD Threatens Bus Transportation for Students |
Recent talks with Los Angeles Unified School District revealed that they are planning to cut funds for buses used for the school’s traveling program. If this action passes, the traveling students of the school, who are bussed in from different parts of the city, would no longer have transportation. The transportation program costs LAUSD approximately $2 million, and it affects 1,180 students at the school. The school’s administration plans to fight this measure, beginning with an emergency meeting scheduled for Jan. 26. The planned action is to include a preamble in the current charter renewal petition, which will speak to the necessity of sustaining the traveling students program. The administration plans to seek the help of the Charter Schools Association in fighting this measure, as well as seeking legal support. In a recent newsletter sent to Palisades administration and faculty, Amy Held said, “We are one complex of students both local and traveling and this action would completely decimate the integrity of the complex and disrupt the education of our kids.” This is a breaking news update.
